Boot Camp Comes To An End

What an amazing journey these past 10 weeks have been for me! As I have been thinking back on my life, accomplishing this program is definitely high up on the list. The past 10 weeks have been full of workouts that I have never tried before, workouts that made me feel like throwing up, lots of laughing because that is what I do when in pain while trying to keep going, muscle building, Adjusting my food intake with great menus to reference to, slip ups, getting back on track, ups & downs emotionally, encouragement from family(Parker being my biggest fan,) & so much more.

I have figured out the key to enjoying exercise again and it is, VARIETY(at least for me.) I will still continue to workout on the elliptical several times a week but for my other workouts I will try to always be changing things up. During the 30 Boot Camp workouts that I did not 1 was the same. By doing this my muscles were always being worked differently which helped my body to change as much as it did. As I had mentioned before, Parker was my biggest fan. Parker was always so excited to go to Boot Camp and watch me workout. I could always count on looking over at him to see his huge smile and thumbs up that he would give to me. Parker would always ask me how my workout was and I would often times reply, “it was a hard workout.” His reply would usually be,”Mom, sometimes workouts are hard, good job.” Parker has also been my teacher and will have me stretch at home by following his moves. I love having my kids involved and plan to keep involving them by going on walks in the morning, playing outside, riding bikes, & eating good nutritious food so that they can learn from this young age how important it is to be healthy!

Hard Is Good!

Today Has been a Great day for me! I have not really felt much of a change even though the numbers are showing otherwise. As I was walking into my house I actually felt taller, stronger, and more confident in myself, which for me is a huge accomplishment.

For today's workout she named it "The 100's"
That means every movement that we did today was in repetition of 100! This was such a hard day but so satisfying to know that I pushed as hard as I did to make it through the entire workout without stopping!!
I am so glad that I am having the opportunity to change my body, & spirit while going through this 10 week program. I would recommend something like this to everyone, it has been an amazing journey thus far and I am excited to see what the future holds!!

Boot Camp Week 6

I am amazed that it is already week 6. This has been such a great learning experience for me. Every day we have done something completely different to work our body to exhaustion. Last week we were outside for 2 days working on a hill doing lunges, squats, triceps against power poles on the mountain. We used rocks to do shoulder presses, and more triceps workouts, Fantastic workouts just using things around us.

We had a substitute today so I won’t be measured until Wednesday. I was anxious to see if I had lost the 2 pounds that I had gained during week 4 and here are my results………………………… I lost the 2 pounds gained plus an additional 2

4 Pounds!!!!!!

This is the menu I will be enjoying this week!

Boot Camp Week 4

Week 4 means a new PHASE………………………………….CARDIO

Wow is all I have to say about the first day of Phase 2!!! I knew that we would be doing CARDIO but I didn’t realize that we would be doing cardio along with dumb bells, resistance bands, or a medicine ball the entire time. I believe that would have to be the hardest cardio workout that I have ever done. As we were working out today our instructor mentioned that this is basically a warm up for what is to come during the next few weeks. Really, this is a warm-up!

For Phase 2 we are supposed to use the menu 6 days out of the week which, if you do the math gives 1 day of freedom. I will be doing 3 days of intense cardio/weight training and then I am supposed to do 2 cardio sessions on my own.

I was weighed and measured today and although I did have loses,  most areas  were very small for the most part. I just have to tell my self that there will be weeks of great losses and weeks of small but it is all progress towards a new Healthy Life!!

Pounds lost - 2 - Total 7lbs

Inches lost - 5.5 -  Total 36.5

Boot Camp Week 3 Blessing in Disguise

Another great week has begun and it started with the van having a dead battery. At first I was a little frustrated but I had to get to boot camp so I pulled out the jogging stroller. It was still a bit chilly in this morning so I bundled up the kids and we headed out. Twenty minutes later we made it to Boot Camp and I was really happy that the Van did not start. It felt great getting out in the fresh air and was a great warm-up before starting our 2 minute interval workout  for 45 minutes. If you have not ever tried them before I would highly suggest it! When it was time to head home it was a bit warmer so no coats, but we had a great walk home in the Sunshine!!

Boot Camp Baby!!!!

First day of Boot camp came today, I am so glad that I am doing this for myself, if you want to read how I finally came to the decision to do this for me click here. Currently I feel sick to my stomach and have an awful headache along with sore muscles that I can only imagine are going to feel even worse tomorrow. I think I pushed myself harder today than I ever have before. I am looking forward to 10  weeks of hard core training. At the end of this 10 week program I hope to have gained;

1. A healthy way of eating

2. Healthy workout habits

3. Increased my self-esteem

4. An understanding that if I am happy and healthy I will be able to take better care of my family        and those around me

Last Saturday I was weighed, measured, and had my body fat calculated numbers that I will not be sharing with anyone but my husband. In the weeks to come I will be posting my losses and I hope there will be many! I will also post the weekly menu that I am supposed to follow. The menu is really basic but is meant to be a teaching tool for learning appropriate portion sizes and the right types of food for my body. Food on the menu can be seasoned in anyway as long as it does not add calories/fat.

Here's to my first Great Week of a Healthy Life!!!

Week 1 Menu & Grocery List

Healthy Woman, Physically, Emotionally, & Spiritually

I have decided that I am ready to become a healthy Woman, that’s right Woman. This might sound selfish and I have thought this many times because, I should be focused on my family and all the other obligations that I have. Well I think I have finally figured out that in order to BE a great Wife, Mother, and any thing else that might come my way, I have to take time for me. I am ready to become strong & healthy physically, emotionally, & spiritually and I am excited for the journey ahead.

As I have thought back through my life and when I thought I was most happy a few specific times came to mind. First was when I was a sophomore/junior in High school. I was very fit and active, always out with great friends. During that time I was not eating a lot and I was exercising all the time, but to me I was finally where I thought I wanted to be. I had many family members worried and concerned about the weight I was losing and my eating habits, but I would lie and say that everything was fine.

The second time I thought of, was when I was a senior. I had a boyfriend that I thought was wonderful, I was a cheerleader, had lots of friends, doing great in school, what more could a girl ask for. I no longer could keep my body going with the little amount of food I was putting in so I turned to bulimia. I would get to a game, performance, track meet, or whatever it might have been early so that I could eat without anyone seeing(usually in the locker room), after I was done I would head right into the restroom to purge almost everything that I had previously consumed. This was working quite well for me and it did for a long time. I graduated with honors, went to college, still had the same boyfriend and started putting on some weight. After another year almost two my boyfriend and I broke up. I wish I could have figured out sooner that the boyfriend that I loved really wasn’t Mr. wonderful(I'm sure he is for someone), but someone who found the weaknesses in me and used my low self esteem to his advantage. I am not saying that I was blameless in the relationship by any means but in hind sight I wish I would have taken the advice that I received from my parents, family members, friends, and even some of His family which was, He did not deserve me and that I could find someone much better that would respect me and treat me the way I should be treated.

As many girls do I gained and lost weight over the next few years, continued with my bulimia and then eventually moved to SLC. My parents purchased a condo for me and several roommates to rent out and it was a Fantastic place. I was always having people over, ward parties, and just a great time. Still my self esteem was so bad that I always turned to my eating disorder for comfort. Bulimia was my friend, I was very carful to hide my disorder and it wasn’t until I finally told my roommate that I was able to get help. I was able to get a great therapist at a Wonderful Eating Disorder Clinic in Orem. After 2 years of treatment I was finally in a really great place with myself, eating healthy, exercising a normal amount, and really loving who I was.

I found a great guy that I am married to, Graduated with my Bachelors, started having kids, and now here I am. In the past I have always come up with excuses for why I am not eating the best or exercising or why I gained the weight that I have. Time to be done with all the self-pity and throw it in the garbage and that is exactly what I am doing.

I have enrolled in a 10 week Boot camp for Women only, to give myself a boost to healthy living. I love that my family is 100% behind me. My sweet boys are always asking me about boot camp and when it starts and what I will be doing. Steve is a great support and knows that if I become healthy the whole family will become more healthy. I am most excited that I am finally doing this for me, not anyone else although in the long run it will benefit all those around me, but it starts with me!
